KLIEWE...ALL RIGHTS RESERVED,
returning to the lake, only now, since Mary Ann and I moved to Oceanside,
Calavera Lake is about a half mile away --if that. Sky Haven was
the street to take to access the other side of the lake --where I haven't
been. As it turns out, Sky Haven is the street our new House is just
off of --in the Pacifica Senior Living community
taking the path less travelled
because I have gone off the designated trail, slipping around one of the
wooden fences erected to keep intruders, such as myself, from venturing
into habitat sensitive areas. Only I don't know this is one of those
areas until I reach the end --and another wooden fence. I saw no
sign at my entree point
now back on the authentic trail
don't intend to do any real climbing today (already done that) but as I
look up I see the sun going behind the mountain
camera momentarily showed this blue halo in this sandwiched shot
is as high up as I'm going
is the continuation of Sky Haven
what I call having all your ducks in a row
thought the ground got cracked like this when there was no water?
he get out of his cage??
lighting on the "volcano"
live very far away from it now, so hope it remains dormant
like the dog left his calling card
he and the wet spot are really on two different planes
shot of the lake --for today
be back soon
than retracing my steps back to the side of the lake I started from, I
decide to continue down the path on the other side...where I was the first
time I was here
I go back up the official entrance to the lake...and think I'm on Sky Haven,
only farther down. After walking almost a block I see the sign, Tamarack.
Oh, ok, so I'll turn up Knollwood and hope I can follow the streets back
to Sky Haven
walking in roughly the same direction paralleling the lake --I think.
But I think I'm also moving farther away from it. I ask a kid about
14 if Sky Haven is up ahead. He shrugs and says, I think so.
About a half block farther on a woman is cleaning her car. I ask
her the same question. "Amanda", as I subsequently learn, says let
me get my phone. She goes into her house and emerges a few minutes
later with her smartphone, and proceeds to look it up. She sees it's
quite a ways to Sky Haven. Really! She offers to drive me.
Really!! Oh that's extremely kind of you. She goes back into
the house to tell her "son" she'll be right back...she's going to drive
this gentleman to his car. So I get into her car and we're off
passes Mira Monte Dr., about a block from her house. As I susequently
discover on google maps, if I had gone down this street I would have reached
Lake Blvd., which Sky Haven crosses. She then goes down to Tamarack and
down to College Blvd...the same route I took the first time I came here.
She then turns on Lake and proceeds to Sky Haven --again passing Mira Monte.
Had I walked to the lake from my new dwelling, which I now could do, she
could have let me off at the corner of Lake and Sky Haven, and I could
have walked home. I tell Amanda she could let me off at this corner
anyway, but she says it's no problem to drive me to my car --as she does.
I thank her for her generosity. Probably won't see her again.
Though on parting she kiddingly said, well if you get lost again, you know
where I live --ah huh
if I had turned to my right at the path up to the Tamarack entrance, and
proceeded down this trail on the other side of the lake, I would have paralleled
Sky Haven and found myself back where I started. Next time I'll know.
Yes, I know I never would have met Amanda. But she was about 30+
years younger and besides --I'm not looking. Is she??
ANOTHER DAY...WON'T GET LOST
